"E" type (XKE) Series I: 61-67  3.8 engine was 61-64; 4.2 engine 65-
                        "Series 1 1/2"  67 models may have both early and late components and can be fairly confusing
                         Series II: 67-71 4.2 engines. no headlight covers
                         Series III: 72-74 5.3 V12 engines

XJ6: Series I: 69-74 4.2 engine, chrome or mostly chrome bumpers, carbureted
        Series II: 74-79 4.2 engine, black bumpers, narrow taillights, fuel injection starts in 78
        Series III: 79-87 4.2 engine, wide taillights
        Series IV (XJ40) 88-97 completely redesigned. 88-89 had 3.6 engines and mostly round headlights,
                                              90-97 have 4.0 engines and rectangular headlights
